10 YEARS AGO From the Evening News, April 24, 1999 A BOLTON postman was trapped in the wreckage of his car for more than 40 minutes after an accident with a double decker bus.

Twelve people on the bus also suffered minor injuries in the collision in Higher Swan Lane, Greater Lever, yesterday. Only two of the passengers needed hospital treatment.

The accident happened shortly before 1pm yesterday when the postman’s Toyota car was involved in the accident with the First Bus double decker — which was leaving Bolton.

25 YEARS AGO From the Evening News, April 25, 1984, BOLTON went popping mad today as out-of-work teenagers took their first steps to a dancing career... led by a professional mime artist from New York.

From today until Friday, he and another dance tutor are taking over the Great Hall at Bolton College’s Manchester Road centre to run classes.

Organiser Tom Smith said more than 30 teenagers turned up to turn the hall into something like a scene from “Fame” — and only two were girls.

50 YEARS AGO From the Evening News, April 25, 1959 CRITICISM by older members of Queen-st. Methodist Church, Farnworth, has led to the closing of the church youth club. It has 100 teenage members.

The minister, The Rev Robert Barker, said the club had recently been invaded by an irresponsible element.

“It is hoped to restart the club in the autumn,” said Mr Barker.

100 YEARS AGO From the Evening News, April 25, 1909 Harwood choir held its soiree in the school on Saturday. The choir, under Mr. Fred Makin, sang part-songs and Mr. James Hird, supplied the music for dancing.
