PUPILS have spelled out the importance of education for children all over the world for the Prime Minister.

Pupils at Castle Hill Primary School in Tong Moor joined the Big Read campaign, urging world leaders to ensure every youngster has an education by 2015.

And yesterday afternoon children at the Bolton school wrote out why they thought it was important that children learned to read and write.

They passed on their handwritten cards to Bolton North East MP David Crausby to deliver to 10 Downing Street.

Year Two teacher Kerry Tustin said: “The children wrote some touching messages such as ‘education can further your life’ and ‘raise your aspirations’.”

She added: “Children were quite shocked to hear why some children did not go to school and especially the number of girls who did not attend class.”

Mrs Tustin said that the campaign did work.

“Every year hundreds of children write to politicians and the number of children not going to school has fallen from 120 million to 70 million,” she said.
