BOOK lovers found themselves in a spin when DJ Mark Radcliffe dropped into Waterstones in Bolton on Saturday.

Scores of fans of the Bolton-born radio star queued to get signed copies of his autobiography, Thank You For the Days.

The Bolton School Old Boy, who grew up in Heaton, posed for pictures, shared memories of the town and spoke about his career as he handed over signed copies to star-struck fans — and even inspired them to write their own book.

He said: “My life wasn’t important and might still not be important, but I have had funny exciting and disappointing experiences which everyone has and could make a book.”

Mark said the book was about “memorable days in his life “ at work and at home. He shares his experiences of meeting celebrities such as Kate Bush and Paul McCartney.

But he said: “It is also about my early life. I feel really warm towards Bolton and going round the town has been very nostalgic. I visited the Market Hall and was looking for the stall I would buy Sasparilla sweets.

“It was a great place to grow up in and it is lovely to come back into Bolton Town Centre. The book is about memorable days through my life.”

Mark added: “The only disappointment was the pastie shop was closed.”

Among those who queued up was Ian Walker, aged 33, of Bradley Fold.

He said: “I listened to Mark on Radio One years ago. I remember we all re-negiogiated our contract so we could listen to him at work at 3.15pm. He treats people with respect and it makes it even more special that he is from Manchester.”

Howard Williams, aged 35, from Middle Hulton, said: “I have a lot of respect for Mark and have listened to him for a number of years. I can find out more about his life through the book.

“I have lived in Bolton all my life and it makes is special that he is from Bolton.”
