The mother of a Bolton man who was found dead in Lancashire has made an emotional appeal to help find her son’s killer.

The body of Umair Waseem, aged 22, was found in a car park off Moor Road, Anglezarke, near Chorley shortly before 10am on Monday February 2.

The cause of his death was severe head trauma.

When his body was found, Umair's ankles and wrists were bound with duct tape. He had been subjected to an extremely violent attack.

Umair lived in Fern Street, Deane, with his mother, sister and brother.

He had been an engineering student at Bolton University.

Umair’s mother Foozya Shakir said: “We are an honest family.

”I've worked hard raising my children.

”Whoever has done this has ripped my family apart and destroyed my whole world.

”Umair was a fun-loving, normal lad who was enjoying university and was an A+ student.

”I am and will always be proud of him and love him very much.

”I'm appealing to anyone who has any information to please come forward and speak to the police to help them catch my son's killer.

”I do not want this to happen to any other family.”

On Sunday 1 February 2009, Umair had been driving around Bolton in a Silver BMW 7 Series car bearing the registration DF02 JFK.

It is believed that he then hired a car, a black Vauxhall Vectra, with the registration number KF56 CYZ. Officers still need to trace the movements of that car.

At about 8.30pm that night another man drove this car away from the Deane Road area of Bolton.

Umair remained in the BMW, which police later found parked close to where his body was found.

Inquiries have shown that on 1 February 2009 the Vauxhall Vectra was driven to Crumpsall and then to Whalley Range. It was abandoned in Crumpsall.

Detective Superintendent Jane Antrobus, who is leading the investigation, said: "It is clear Umair’s death has left his family and friends devastated.

”We’re doing all we can to find who murdered Umair, but we still need more information.

”I’d like to hear from anyone who may know anything at all.

”You may think something you heard or saw wasn’t important, but I’d urge you to call us as it may be the vital piece in the jigsaw.

”It was snowing that night. Did you see the Vauxhall Vectra or the BMW being driven around and were there any other cars with them? Did you see anyone hanging round that car park?”

Anyone with any information about Umair's murder can contact police on 0161 856 9283 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Two men, aged 20 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of murder and have been bailed until 9 June 2009 pending further inquiries.
