CONTROVERSIAL plans for a sheltered housing complex on land near Horwich RMI club have been given the go-ahead.
McCarthy and Stone Developments originally wanted to build 48 flats for the elderly on the site of the former RMI club car park, in Chorley New Road, Horwich.
Members of Bolton Council’s planning committee said they wanted the development scaled down with extra parking spaces and space for vehicles to turn to be added.
A revised plan for 45 flats was put forward and the town council objected on the grounds it was an over-development of the site and the RMI club.
Operations manager Jim Hickey submitted a petition with 250 signatures against the development. The proposals came before the planning committee earlier this month and the decision was delegated to the director of planning, who has approved the scheme.
