FASHION guru Gok Wan swanned into the Market Place in Bolton yesterday in a bid to reform shopaholic Barbara Taylor.

The TV stylist, best known for the hit show “How to Look Good Naked” was in town with a film crew to help 56-year-old Weight Watchers leader Barbara transform her wardrobe.

The filming was for the last in the current series of Gok's Fashion Fix, which will be broadcast on Channel Four at 8pm on June 2.

Barbara, of Smithills, had applied to be on the programme and knew she would have to film some preliminary scenes, but had no idea she had definitely been chosen to appear on the show.

While she was out shopping, her daughter and best friend raided her four wardrobes which were groaning with more than 100 pairs of shoes, 25 jackets and 37 black tops.

The entire collection was due to be laid out in Moses Gate Country Park, where Gok would go through the items with Barbara in bid to help her scale back her retail habit.

But the damp Bolton weather meant they had to find an alternative venue, so they turned to the Market Place, where they were given space in the centre to lay out Barbara’s huge collection of shoes, handbags and clothing, ready to surprise her with it.

A large crowd gathered to watch as Barbara was shown the results of her shopping habit — clothes and shoes, many unworn and with their labels still attached.

Barbara said she thought she was being filmed for routine shopping footage for the programme when Gok Wan suddenly appeared and surprised her.

She said: “I was absolutely gobsmacked. They were filling the Market Place with all my possessions. Seeing it all in one place was unbelievable. I realised I am a shopaholic and I need help.

“It was fantastic though and I had a brilliant day.”

A spokesman for television company Endemol, who make the programme, said: “With Gok's help Barbara is hoping to make better use of her hard earned cash and become more adventurous with her wardrobe so she actually ends up wearing the clothes she buys.”

Barbara added: “My family were in on it all along. I will never trust them again.”
