A FORMER air steward hopes to become a real high-flyer in the world of computers.

Following nine years working for various airline companies, Kenneth Eckersall is now piloting is own firm.

He has put his knowledge of computers to good use by launching his own company, KenEck, to offer a range of services to help people get the most from their PCs at home.

The 28-year-old, of Hilden Street, Bolton, said: “I worked in cabin crew for Air 2000 and First Choice. I decided to take voluntary redundancy because I fancied a change and my role was being done away with anyway. Latterly, I was a senior cabin crew member.”

Before becoming an air steward, Mr Eckersall worked for six months in a Bolton computer shop.

“Since I got my first computer some years ago, I’ve constantly upgraded, switched and built them,” he said.

“I have always been keen on using computers and building new computers for friends and family. And the few months I spent at the shop gave me the chance to do that for a living.

“I’m currently involved in getting Microsoft qualifications to keep myself refreshed and fully up to date.”

Mr Eckersall will target the domestic market, a shrewd move given that sales and ownership of home computers have soared in recent years.

“I’ll be working from my home and visiting their homes,” Mr Eckersall added.

“I want to take my experience of computers to the next level and bring my enthusiasm and knowledge to the customers.

“The slogan of my KenEck business is ‘What Your Computer is Waiting For.’ I am offering a range of services to help people get the most from their PC, such as repairs, upgrades, building a new PC and giving one-to-one lessons.”

And if his new career takes off, the sky’s the limit.

He said: “Ideally, my aim is to expand and see a range of my stores around the UK. I’m advertising, distributing leaflets and, so far, I’ve received a lot of feedback from colleagues.”
