AROUND 500 people in the North West look set to lose their jobs as Lloyds Banking Group seeks to cut costs.

The group announced that it will slash almost 1,000 jobs at a car finance unit which employs more than 500 people in the region.

The group, in which the UK Government now has a 43 per cent stake, said that following a review the car finance business was deemed to be no longer financially viable and would be wound down over the next two years.

It said it hoped that most of the jobs would go through natural wastage.
