POLICE seized cannabis and class A drugs paraphernalia when they raided a suspected drugs den.

Officers smashed through the door of an end-terrace house in Wellington Street, Farnworth, at 9.15am yesterday.

The warrant was carried out by officers from the Bolton South neighbourhood policing team after tip-offs from the community.

A man and a woman were detained at the house while officers carried out a search for drugs.

Police found five bags of cannabis bush, with a street value of about £50, in an upstairs bedroom.

In the kitchen, they also found class A drugs paraphernalia, which included a set of scales, syringes and foil.

Traces of amphetamine were also found.

All the seized items will be sent off for forensic testing.

Sgt Steve Baldam said: “Drugs can blight communities. The police will, where possible, take a pro-active stance to tackle anti-social behaviour associated with drugs and provide respite for the community.

“We want to hear about concerns people have and any information that might be of assistance.”

A man, aged 36, was arrested on suspicion of possessing class B drugs with intent to supply. He was questioned and bailed until a later date, pending further inquiries.

Shortly after the raid, police community support officers delivered leaflets to local residents explaining what had taken place.
