POP star Danny Jones is promising to get closer to some of his fans on McFly’s new tour.

The band are currently playing a series of smaller venues, including Manchester’s Apollo tonight, and former Thornleigh Salesian College pupil Danny says they are excited about being out on the road again.

“We haven’t been to some of these places for a long time so it will be great to see our fans in a really intimate setting,” he said.

The band left their major record label last year in order to strike out on their own with Super Records, a decision which Danny says has definitely been a good one for the band.

“We feel like we have been doing things on our own and we can take some credit for our success and creative decisions,” he said.

“We were thinking about it for a while and the label wanted us to release a greatest hits which we didn’t want to do and it was the point where we wanted more control over what we released.”

However, he says that little has changed within the band since the birth of Super Records.

“We just took on a bit more responsibility but apart from that not much has changed. All of us take on creative roles in different ways but Tom takes the lead. He’s the most organised out of all of us,” he said.

The band will soon be appearing in the teen soap opera Hollyoaks. He says that they will not be making any more screen appearances in the near future, although he adds that “if something came up and the timing was right I’m sure we would consider it”.
