A HOTEL complex which accused a group of Bolton School pupils of setting fire to a bar has a track record of charging for “damage”, tourists have claimed.

As reported in The Bolton News this week, a group of 10 pals went to Kavos in Corfu to celebrate the end of their A levels.

But their trip turned into a nightmare when police were called and they were threatened with jail if they did not pay 1,000 euros for damage to a bar — which they claim they did not do.

The Hebe’s Complex has received negative reviews from other holidaymakers who have been accused of causing damage and forced to pay up cash.

Fiona Birchall, who stayed at the complex as far back as 2005, posted a review on justgreece.co.uk.

She said: “Please be advised to walk your rep round your room and tell them about any damages when you get there, as the owner will pin you down for old damages, and you can then say goodbye to any beer money you brought with you.“ Another reviewer on holidaywatchdog.com claimed she was forced to pay 110 euros for damage to a door in September last year.

She said: “We noticed on day two that there was a hole in our door but thought we haven’t paid that much and it’s not harming us — how wrong were we — on day six the maid noticed this hole and we were accused of doing it.

“We were told on day nine to pay 110 euros that day or our belongings would be outside the room when we got back.

“We paid obviously, we had no choice —but we told the rep and bar women we wanted the door fixed before we left. We were assured this would happen but they told us the day before we left that he couldn’t come until the end of season.”

Christopher Barnard, aged 18, from Lostock, was one of the group accused to setting fire to a bar.

He said: “We have read other reviews and actually stayed in Zeus room nine, and the door had not been fixed.”

Parents of the boys say they are considering legal action against the complex.
