MAL Loye wants his future as a Lancashire player sorted one way or another before the county’s final Championship match against Warwickshire at Old Trafford a week on Wednesday.

The 36-year-old batsman is out of contract at the end of the summer, despite being the club’s leading four-day run-scorer with 970 from 12 matches at an average of 57.05, 151 of which came in the second innings of Lancashire’s crucial LV Division One draw against Somerset at Taunton on Saturday, as he shared an unbroken third wicket partnership of 247 with VVS Laxman.

Indian ace Laxman finished 113 not out as the Red Rose side recovered from 67-2 on Friday evening to declare on 314-2, clinching eight crucial points.

Lancashire, who have a 22-point cushion over Sussex, 18 points on Yorkshire and six on Hampshire, are all but safe with one game still to play even though all those three sides have two left.

Loye said: “There is a break now which gives me the opportunity to settle things up with the club about my future for the next few years.”
