MORE than 60 homes were hit by a power cut on Sunday.

Residents in Breightmet and Harwood were affected by a fault with an underground cable in the Red Lane area.

A spokesman for United Utilities said: “We started to receive reports at approximately 9.55am that customers across the BL2 area were experiencing intermittent power supplies.

“Our engineers discovered that an underground cable fault in the Red Lane area was the cause, which affected 61 customers in total.

“Power was gradually restored over the morning and afternoon, with everyone back on supply by 7.05pm.

“Repairs to the cable have been completed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Residents in Harley Avenue, Harwood, were in darkness until 4am today.

United Utilities say this was a separate incident due to a fault on the network.
