Blackburn Reserves 1 Wanderers Res 2

ALI Al Habsi saved Brett Emerton’s injury-time penalty after Danny Shittu was sent off in Wanderers’ first win in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North at Leigh’s Sports Village.

The Bolton defender, who has been linked with a loan move to Ipswich, received a red card for a professional foul on Nikola Kalinic in the 93rd minute, but Emerton saw his spot-kick well saved by Al Habsi.

Steven Reid’s deflected free-kick had put Blackburn in front but goals from Javlon Campbell and second-half substitute Danny Ward ensured a strong Wanderers side took the honours.

The watching Gary Megson will have also been pleased to see Ricardo Vaz Te come through 45 minutes on his return to action following a knee injury which sidelined the Portugese striker's for nearly year.

Wanderers: Al Habsi, Hunt, Shittu, A O’Brien (Connolly 34), Stokes, Chung-Yong, McCann (Sheridan 65), Basham, Riga; Vaz Te (Ward 46), Campbell. Subs not used: Lainton, Mooy.
