A TOWN is planning a Christmas Fair bonanza - and the top attraction is rather n-ice.
WACO — Westhoughton Active Communities Organisation — is organising a festive event for December 20 and 21.
Among the many activities on offer for residents will be a 10m by 10m ice rink in the back of the market hall.
Gaynor Ratcliff, one of the founding members of WACO, said: “The back of the market hall will be a full blown winter wonderland. There will be an ice rink with a snow machine. We want it to be for everybody, so it is one that is suitable for people in wheelchairs and young children.
“It is going to be absolutely fantastic.”
Skaters will be able to use the rink for free, and skates will be provided.
Among the other activities during the two-day event, which will be based in and around Market Street, include carol services, a candle-lit parade and street entertainment.
WACO has gained more than £20,000 in fundraising for the event, including £10,000 from grant giving body Awards for All. Westhoughton Town Council agreed to fund the ice rink, at a cost of £3,520, and gave their backing to the event.
Cllr Harry Bowling said: “I believe it is a good thing for the town and we should support it fully.”
