Drama lessons bring books to life

THERE is plenty of drama going on in literacy classes at Bowness Primary School.

Children at the Little Lever school are acting out parts of the books they are studying with the help of Activ8 at the Octagon Theatre in a four week project.

Education facilitator at Activ8, Lynsey Merrick, said: “The project is about using drama in literacy. It helps children think about what they are learning in a different way.

“One group is studying Roald Dahl’s BFG, and the children focused on the dream theme. They performed their own dream.”

Headteacher Peter Sturgess said: “Like all schools we are always looking to improve literacy standards and projects like this fire up children’s enthusiasm. It engages them more in their lesson and children want to write about what they are interested in.”
