TEN-year-old Alexander Strickleton beat his nephew Joshua Lee Williams, aged nine, to win the World Association Kickboxing Organisation gold medal for boys aged eight to 10 at 32kg.
The youngster travelled to Romania to take part in the WAKO European Judgement Day championships in Bucharest with instructor Paul Smith who runs the North West Warriors Gym, based at the former police station in Castle Street, Bolton.
As well as the silver medal, Joshua also landed the bronze in the light contact section at 32kg, as did Strickleton in the same discipline for the 10 to 12 years category. Instructor Smith bagged a silver in the men’s 94kg section, after suffering an injured knee while ahead on points in his contest.
Anyone interested in trying the sport out should contact Smith on 0800 183 2919 or on 07779 142502.
