THIS is one of the first drawings of the new £10 million building planned for Millwood Special School.
It was unveiled at Radcliffe Civic Suite for parents and residents to have their say.
The school, the first to be built by Bury Council in almost 30 years, will be constructed at Radcliffe Riverside High School, in Abden Street.
Pupils currently at Radcliffe Riverside will move to the school’s other campus in Spring Lane next year, leaving the site vacant.
The new building for Millwood will be single-storey, with a main hub containing the school hall, cafeteria and drama theatre. The school grounds will be landscaped to provide safe play areas, allotments and polytunnels.
No plans have yet been made for the school’s existing site in Fletcher Fold Road, Bury.
Headteacher Helen Chadwick said: “All the pupils, parents, carers and staff are delighted. This will be a state-of-the-art school in the centre of Radcliffe.”
A planning application has been submitted. If approved, building work could start in May and the school will open in September, 2011.
