ANTHONY Grimshaw stormed into the finals of the National Senior Novice Championship with a superb display.
The Rumworth and Hulton boxer beat James Baxter 6-3 in Sunday’s Class A semi-final in Speke.
The 21-year-old will now aim to become the new 69kg champion when he takes on London’s Will McDermott at Festival Hall in Kirkby in Ashfield on Sunday, December 20.
Bolton Elite’s Yasser Arif, who has yet to fight in the competition, will join him in the finals after receiving yet another walkover at 51kg. He takes on Merseyside/Cheshire’s Dean Murphy in his Class B showdown.
Elsewhere, New Bury and Farnworth juniors Ciaran Sydall and Mathew Brown were celebrating after an excellent double victory.
Sydall easily outpointed Sandygate’s C Aston while Brown defeated Blackpool’s D Johnson. It has been a fine couple of weeks for the club. Sohil Raja beat J Morris, of Centurions, Akib Khan overcame Gloves’ A Amjad, Jack Flatley was too good for J Turnbull, of Irvine, and Jake Barrick outfought Middleton’s A Taylor. But there was disappointment for young Aaron Gray, who produced a valiant display in losing to unbeaten national champion S Rankin on points in Liverpool.
