Home improvement chain Carpetright said it was back on track yesterday, after its UK and Ireland arm enjoyed the best half year sales growth since 2004.
The group achieved pre-tax profits of £11 million in the six months to October 31, an increase of 16 per cent on a year earlier.
The firm benefited from signs of life in the housing market and the demise of competitor Allied Carpets. It also attracted additional business from house builders and insurers.
Carpetright saw a sharp fall in like-for-like sales in early 2009, but this reversed to show growth of 3.9 per cent in the UK and Ireland over the half year.
