A MAN is recovering in hospital after plunging more than 13 feet down banking into an icy stream.
Volunteers from Bolton Mountain Rescue were called to open land off Freshfield Avenue, Farnworth, at 1.30am yesterday after the man, who is in his 40s, fell while walking home after celebrating the new year.
The rescue teams lifted him out of the shallow water and on to a spine board.
He was taken the short distance to Royal Bolton Hospital, where an examination revealed he had suffered a broken leg and back injuries.
Bolton Mountain Rescue team leader Mike Marsh said: “We knew roughly where the call had come from, but not the exact location.
“Our two crews searched the area and found the gentleman a short time after. He had fallen into the steam while taking a shortcut.”
