MOTORISTS are facing bills running into hundreds of pounds after a spate of vandal attacks in Horwich.
A number of car owners have reported their vehicles have been “keyed” — where the paint surface is deliberately scratched using a set of keys.
Residents in the Lee Lane area say the vandalism started in late January and believe it could be the same person as all attacks have taken place in the same vicinity of the town.
The latest attack took place on Lee Lane between 6pm and 8pm on Friday when the bodywork of a BMW M3 was scratched.
The car’s owner, David Thomas, said: “My neighbour’s car has also been damaged and shop owners have said their cars left on the car park have also been damaged in the same way.
“A number of cars have been vandalised like this over a period of time in the same area.”
Other cars targeted in a similar fashion include a Honda car parked on Wright Street, Horwich, which was scratched between 10.20pm and 12.20pm on January 24.
A BMW was also scratched on Captain Street in Horwich on January 18.
Owner Roy Boardman said: “I went to get a quote for the repair and I was told I was the third person he had seen in a week.”
Repair quotes range from £300 to around £1,300.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “Anyone with information is asked to call us on 0161 872 5050.”
