FIVE Bolton music students will perform in front of royalty at a one-off event in London tomorrow.

Soprano Hannah King, French horn player Carys Evans, trombone player Tom Berry and viola players, Cal Austin and Lilya Tymchshyn are students at Chetham’s School of Music in London.

They will perform as part of Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra and Chorus alongside the renowned Bach choir at a concert at the Royal Festival Hall.

HRH Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex, will be in the audience.

Carys, 17, who lives in Bromley Cross, says the students are all very excited about the opportunity to play at such a prestigious event.

“The hall is really amazing, everyone is really looking forward to it,” she said. “I’m not nervous at the moment, but I think everyone will start to feel a bit of anticipation when we get down to London.”

Tom, who lives in Westhoughton, said: “It’s going to be good fun. We have all been rehearsing all week. Prince Edward is one of the patrons of Chetham’s and we played in front of him last year at the 40th anniversary celebrations, which was really nice.”

Tom’s father is Tony Berry, singer in the well-loved comedy folk band The Houghton Weavers, although the 18-year-old says he is not really influenced by his father’s music.

The orchestra will perform Verdi’s Requiem, known for the thrilling Dies Irae, a dramatic evocation of the Day of Judgement.
