REGULARS of a popular pub are gearing up to be the first in Bolton to sample live 3D football.

Bosses from The New Inn, in Church Street, Little Lever, have announced they will install state-of-the-art plasma screens in time for customers to watch a potential Premier League title decider in April.

The technology has only been previously used at one other North West venue — in Manchester city centre — for Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Arsenal in February.

New Inn licensee Noel Yearsley said that his bar enjoyed a packed house for that match and he is hoping for similar success when Manchester United and Chelsea meet on April 3 — a potential championship showdown.

“It’s something new for us to try and we can’t wait to give it a go. We just hope it goes down well with our customers and gets them coming through the doors,” said Noel, who took over at the pub two-and-a-half years ago.

Customers will have to wear special glasses to enjoy the 3D effects.

Gary Wilkinson, aged 24, of Little Lever, said: “I’ve never seen a match in 3D before, but I’m willing to give it a go. Times change and fans will try anything that is a bit different. It will be exciting when it comes to the pub.”

Len Weall, aged 63, also of Little Lever, said: “The last time I wore 3D glasses were those awful cardboard ones they gave you at the cinema about 40 years ago.

“These glasses look quite modern and if it’s good I think people will like it and pick out pubs with 3D screens. You have to try it to see if it’s a winner.”
