THERE were mixed fortunes for the two local sides involved in the only matches played in the Premier Division, with high-flying visitors Chew Moor Brook beating Rossendale Amateurs 3-2 and Bolton Wyresdale losing 3-0 at Old Mancunians.

CMB avenged their 6-1 Lancashire FA Cup defeat at the hands of Rossdendale earlier in the season.

The hosts opened the scoring on 15 minutes, but their lead was shortlived as Chew Moor went straight down the other end for Marc Height to try his luck from 25 yards. The home goalkeeper failed to deal with effort, palming the ball into the net.

CMB’s new striker Daniel Tyrer was making his debut after signing from Tempest United, and he wasted no time in latching on to a diagonal ball from Height to put his new side into the lead.

The Lostock side then had to withstand a period of pressure from Rossendale, and debutant Martin Rigby — signed from Ashton Town — was superb at the back.

Height provided the two-goal cushion with a scuffed shot which crept in at the far post before the Lancashire men set up a nervy last five minutes with their second goal from a free kick just outside the penalty area.

CMB manager Steve Thompson said: “It was a really good game of football, played on a 3G pitch. The lads really enjoyed the game.”

CMB entertain Rochdale St Clements on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, Aamar Ahmed’s Wyresdale side left Manchester with their heads held high after a much improved performance which was not reflected in the scoreline.

“They took their chances, but we didn’t take ours. That was the only difference,” said Ahmed. “Gaz Whiteside and Chris Lord both missed opportunities for us.

“We had a very young side out with five players aged under 20. We gave a debut to 17-year-old Anthony Locke and he played very well.”

Wyresdale have a crunch home fixture against fellow strugglers Radcliffe Town on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm.

Castle Hill went six points clear in the First Division with a 9-3 victory at Lymm.

Daniel Warburton put the Bolton team ahead before poor defending saw the home side take a 3-1 lead.

But Castle Hill, who have only lost once in their last 18 games, stormed back with three goals from Mark Sloan and one from Andrew Lindley, to give them a 5-3 half-time lead before scoring another four in the second half through Warburton, Richard Holt, Sloan and a 30-yard volley from Phil Roberts.

Castle Hill Reserves also hit nine goals against Lymm Res with Jordan McGlocklin (4), Paul Johnston (2), Lee Murgatroyd, Peter Woodcock and Scott Campbell scoring in a 9-1 win.
