YOUNGSTERS from a Bolton school have been helping the council carry out its biggest ever clean-up of the borough’s streets.

Clarendon Primary School pupils spent a day on the streets of Rumworth litter picking and completing a survey on the types of rubbish they found.

Headteacher Naomi Richardson said: “The children were happy to do their bit for the local community but were disgusted at the amount of rubbish they collected.

“We hope that they will grow up to be a lot more responsible than some of the adults who use the streets as litter bins.”

Cllr Sufrana Bashir-Ismail, executive member for cleaner, greener, safer, said: “The council is committed to making Bolton a cleaner and greener place to live.

“The Big Tidy Up creates a sense of community and also shows people that if they work together they can make a difference to their local area. We hope that this Big Tidy Up will inspire others to clean up their own streets, schools and community areas.”

The Big Tidy Up is being run by Bolton Council and its partners including Bolton at Home, Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service and Greater Manchester Police.
