THREE 18-ton containers left a Bolton warehouse in 1973 for New Zealand containing the £72,000 construction kit for the Commonwealth Games electric scoreboards. Bolton Export Packing Co, Bury Road, had been collecting the components for the scoreboards as they left the work benches of Hird-Brown Ltd the local electronics firm. Our photograph shows the scoreboards being packed for the long trip across the sea to New Zealand. on the other side of the world. The electronic scoreboards were seen all over the world.
