TWO years ago Jackie and Stephen Gavin lost their six year-old daughter Mollie to leukaemia.

Then, not long afterwards, their four-day-old baby daughter Lucy died.

They were devastated. But since then, they have raised thousands of pounds in a remarkable legacy that will benefit many children.

Mollie was a bright pupil at Holy Infants Primary School, Astley Bridge, when illness struck suddenly.

Last year, Jackie, along with family and friends, ran in the Bolton Race for Life bearing a picture of Mollie on their T-shirts. They raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research.

On July 24, Jackie along with a friend and her sister Samantha will again run in the race at Leverhulme Park to raise money for the charity.

And on Friday, July 1, the day after what would have been Mollie's eighth birthday, Jackie has organised a fundraising evening at Astley Bridge Conservative Club with singers, a disco, tombola, raffle and an auction which includes signed sporting memorabilia such as Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers shirts and boxing gloves from Amir Khan.

Tickets are £5 each, including supper, and proceeds will go to the Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital at Pendlebury and the Compassionate Friends group which Jackie joined and whose members have proved a great support.
