CHESNEY'S beloved Great Dane pet Schmeichel from Coronation Street proved a hit when he made a public appearance at the opening of a new vet's surgery in Worsley.
It's really no surprise because he is a beautiful dog and, I believe, a fine actor.
There is a strong case for a new category of Best Animal Actor in a TV Soap in the Baftas or annual soap awards. In the episode when he was knocked unconscious by a bus, his performance gave new meaning to the phrase "lying doggo."
