DAISY Hill and Horwich both pulled off thrilling wins in knockout competitions.

Daisy grabbed a dramatic one-run win in the last over against Moorfield in the Lancashire Knockout, and Horwich chased Blackpool's 226-4 total in the National Knockout to win by eight wickets with four balls to spare.

Batting first, Daisy Hill reached 228 with Howard Brooks hitting 70 and Mark Wood 49.

Against that Moorside kept up with the run rate, especially through Mike Brick's unbeaten 103, and needed five to win off the last over. However, with Adam Irish bowling a tight line and length they were restricted to just three and finished the game a run adrift on 227-8.

Northern League side Blackpool looked to have left Horwich with a tough task after compiling 226-4, Steve Croft hitting 113 and former Bolton League player Tim Berry adding a useful 66.

In reply, Horwich went for the target from the start, with Ashley Williams 30 and Gary Dooley 43, but it was the partnership between Grant Long and pro David White that settled the game. Long hit an unbeaten 78 and White reached 50 not out, the winning runs coming in the last over.

Eagley were unlucky to go out of the Lancashire Knockout on the Duckworth-Lewis method. Opponents Denton St Lawrence were 70-3 when the rain came down, but when the two sides went out again, Denton needed to score 40 off nine overs, while Eagley had to take three more wickets.

Denton fulfilled their aim and reached 111-4 but in that time Eagley were only able to take one more wicket.

Ironically, had the two sides been unable to get back on the pitch, Eagley, who had earlier made 197-7, would have won the match on faster run rate.

As it was, they fell victim to a one-time Bolton favourite, Steve Dublin, who hit 70 not out, while Eagley's top runmakers were pro Mike O'Rourke and David Shuttleworth, who both hit 40.

Walshaw were surprise victims of Manchester Association side Hindley St Peter's, who beat Horwich in the last round.

Hindley batted first and reached 196, the notable part of the innings coming when Moorfield was given out leg before when nought, only for the umpire to admit he had made a mistake. He returned to the crease from where he went on to hit 36.

Walshaw never got to grips with the asking rate and were all out for a disappointing 145, Bowes taking 3-8.
