A CURIOUS puppy was put in a spin when she got her head stuck . . . in a washing machine.

Seven-week-old Doodles, a Staffordshire terrier and boxer cross, stuck her head into a pipe attachment hole in the machine and found herself trapped.

No matter what she did Doodles was trapped and unable to free herself.

Firefighters finally managed to get her out of her tight spot - with a little help from washing up liquid.

She was discovered whimpering by her owner, Deborah Richardson, at their home in Breightmet on Sunday morning.

Miss Richardson said: "I heard her from my bed and I just thought she was after some food but I came down to investigate anyway and discovered her trapped in the washing machine. All I could see was her body.

"We managed to get her ears free but she was stuck by her jaw and as soon as I realised I wasnt going to get her out on my own I thought I had better phone for help because she seemed to be very distressed."

Miss Richards, aged 40, called the fire brigade to her home on Deepdale Avenue - and the puppy was freed within minutes.

Firefighters pulled the washing machine away from the wall and tilted it to allow better access to the dog and used washing up liquid to set her free.

Sub Officer Mick Gannon said: "When we arrived, all we could see was a little ball of fluff sticking out of a hole in the washing machine.

"We used a similar method to when children get their heads stuck in railings to get her out by turning her through 180 degrees and using some soap.

Miss Richardson, a foster carer, added: "I don't know what they did to get her out because I couldn't bear to watch.

"But when she emerged we cleaned her up and she was all right within a few minutes.

"Unfortunately for us she's at that age where she will try and put her head into anything," she added.
