THE rain came down but the runs still flowed on another big-hitting Bolton League day.

Jason Swift hit his now customary century and was joined on the three-figure mark in the same match by Tonge's Adil Nisar, and Egerton's Jadhav was was 134 not out, while Simon Booth and Tim Barrow plundered 40 runs from the last two overs in Farnworth's massive 292-6 at Westhoughton.

Swift's contribution helped Walkden to another win but it could have been so different. After Nisar's 122 proved the major contribution to a Tonge total of 168, he then saw Swift dropped by Bob Wallerb off his first ball. And how Tonge were made to pay for that.

With the rain causing frequent interruptions, Swift simply attacked every ball he received, and three sixes and 12 fours helped him to 102 not out with Walkden claiming an eight-wicket win off 30 overs.

Egerton's strength certainly lies in the opening partnership of pro Deeraj Jadhav and Paul Stafford. Last week they put on 190, and they followed it up with 104 against Bradshaw. Of that, Stafford made 50 while Jadhav went on to an unbeaten 134 to help Egerton to 260-7. Frequent rain stoppages ruled out any chance of Bradshaw chasing that total but Mike Ward added to the entertainment with 48 off 32 balls in his side's replay of 67-2.

Farnworth and Westhoughton served up a total of 470 runs in a game of reduced overs. Farnworth pro Brenton Parchment quickly got things moving with an innings of 89, but the real fireworks came from Simon Booth and Tim Barrow.

After being driven off by rain with two overs remaining, they returned to hit 41 off the last 12 balls, with their last four overs producing 70 runs. Booth took the starring role to come within a run of setting a new mark for the fastest 50 this season with an unbeaten 49 off 21 balls.

That helped Farnworth to a total of 292-6, but to their credit Westhoughton had a go and quickly moved to 88-2 with pro Antonio Mayers and Adam Coates taking on the bowlers. Tim Barrow managed to halt the flow of runs to spark off something of a collapse and in the end his 5-47 resulted in Westhoughton finishing the game on 182-7 off 37 overs with Mayers unbeaten on 81 and Coates 46.

Farnworth Social Circle picked up a useful four-wicket win over Eagley after an attacking innings from Dean Eckersley.

Chasing 161-8, Michael Eccles 50 not out, Dave Parkinson added to his bowling figures of 6-69 with an innings of 29 before Eckersley hit a quick 69 not out, with solid support from his captain Darren Molyneux.

The rain ruined any chance of results at Kearsley and Greenmount. Kearsley hit 193 against Astley Bridge with pro Ganga and captain Rick Hamblett both producing half centuries for the second week in succession.

Against that, Bridge quickly became bogged down as Ganga collected 5-35 and they eventually held out to reach 95-7 off 46 overs.

Greenmount totalled 201-9 against Horwich, but that turned out to be somewhat wasted as the game was abandoned.
