MANCHESTER Airport is celebrating after winning the prestigious "Best Environmental Practice" category at the Northwest Business Environment Awards.
Ther airport won the award for its "Carbon Management in Action" strategy that aims to reduce the airport's carbon emissions by 10 per cent by 2015.
The strategy has already proved extremely effective to date - 10 per cent of electricity across the airport site now comes from renewable sources saving 4,300 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.
John Spooner, managing director of Manchester Airport, said: "We are delighted that the hard work we consistently put into improving the environment has been recognised by this award.
"We are always looking at ways of improving even further and will continue our efforts to reduce carbon emissions and remain at the forefront of best practice environmental management."
The Northwest Business Environment Awards are held annually to acknowledge companies that are achieving outstanding success while improving and protecting the environment.
