A CHILDMINDER who killed a five-month old baby could face a longer jail term after the prosecution won permission to appeal against her three-year sentence.

The Attorney General, Lord Goldsmith, has ruled that the case of Rebecca Wilson should go to the Court of Appeal in London.

Wilson, aged 33, of Willow Close, Bolton, was found guilty of the manslaughter of Anil Joshi at Liverpool Crown Court in January.

Her case will be re-examined on the grounds that the three-year jail term was unduly lenient.

Police applied for an appeal through Greater Manchester Crown Prosecution Service.

A spokesman for the Attorney General confirmed the appeal hearing had been granted, but added that a date was still to be set.

Anil's parents, Vijay and Tejal, have been informed of the appeal.

After the sentencing, they described Wilson as "callous, calculating and ruthless".

Toddler Anil died of brain damage after Wilson shook him until he became unconscious at her home in Willow Close, Deane.

He was rushed to the Royal Bolton Hospital on January 8, 2003, but failed to recover and died in his mother's arms three days later.

On the day of the incident, Anil had been dropped off at Wilson's home. She had been looking after him for six months.

In 2003, 98 cases were referred to the Court of Appeal with 64 upheld as being unduly lenient, of which 58 had their sentences increased.
