SOME of Bolton's biggest boxing talents are laying off the Easter eggs and getting ready for battle in the ring over the next few days writes Marc Iles

Tonge ABC's Light Heavyweight Robin White will compete in the ABA Under-20s championships tonight and Bolton Lads' Danny Boswell squares up against fierce rival Steven Spencer on Easter Monday.

Tickets for the ABA contest are priced at £5 and will be available on the door at Larches Labour Club in Preston. Tonge's Under-20 Light Welterweight Tommy Cush is also on the card.

Boswell will face his long-time adversary Spencer, who has beaten him on the previous two occasions, in a special show at the Lads Club on Monday (tickets priced at £3 on the door).

Fighters from New Bury /Farnworth and Bury ABC will also feature on the card. Contact 01204 540100 for more details, and come down to cheer on the local lads.

This Sunday also sees Bolton Lads boxers in action at Hopwood Hall in Middleton, where highly-rated junior Ben Cunliffe (54kg) and Under-20 David Court (64kg) are looking to be matched.

It has been a busy time at the Lads and Girls Club, with coaches busy preparing for the visit of Canada'a Lonsdale ABC in April, over the St George's Day weekend.

Accommodation is needed for some of the fighters, so if you think you can help please contact the club.

Nationally, it has been quite a quiet week following the fiasco between Brian Magee and Joe Calzaghe.

But if you got a chance to see Mexican legend Erik Morales fight Filipino Manny Pacquiao last weekend, you probably saw two of the toughest fighters of this, and possibly any, generation.

Morales edged it on points, and his copybook remains blotted only by a defeat to the even greater Marco Barrera.
