SHOPPERS heading for Wigan will find it more difficult to park.
Several car parks are due to close as work starts on its showpiece Grand Arcade shopping centre.
The closures will see the loss of 800 parking spaces but council bosses believe there are enough spaces left in the town to cope with demand.
The car parks earmarked for closure are Station Road and Millgate multi storeys and the pay-and-display surface car parks on Station Road.
A council spokesman said the closures would be monitored for problems.
The new shopping centre will include an 850 space car park.
