A BOLTON woman is celebrating her safe return from the jungle, having successfully completed a trek for charity.
Joanne Aungier, aged 35, of Sharples, travelled to Thailand for the expedition, which she undertook in aid of Henshaws Society for Blind People, where she works as children and family services team leader.
She completed the challenge alongside Wyn Rendle, a visually impaired mother-of-three from Oldham.
Together, the intrepid pair braved the regions rough terrain for 10 days to raise £3,500 for Henshaws, the Trafford-based charity which helps blind and visually impaired people of all ages across the North of England.
They found the energy to walk 15 miles every day, wading through fast-flowing rivers, and canoeing 12 miles to get from one camp to the next, all the while existing on a diet of rice and vegetables. Their adventure took place before the tidal wave disaster in South-east Asia.
Joanne said: "The trek was a real challenge and, on a personal level, it is such a great feeling to put something back into the charity which I work for."
