A BOLTON Wanderers fan has turned his experiences of watching the Whites into a novel in aid of charity.

Kevin O'Hara spent three years writing his debut book "Tell Someone?", which tells the story of a fictitious Bolton Wanderers fan called Liam O'Sullivan.

The 37-year-old from Chorley finished the novel while living in Spain for 14 months - a time when he missed going to the Reebok Stadium to watch the Wanderers.

Mr O'Hara moved back to England in January this year and spent the next few weeks putting the finishing touches to his book.

He received writing tips from Phoenix Nights star Dave Spikey who works out at the gym Kevin runs in Chorley.

Dave volunteered to read some chapters of the book, and, after an exchange of emails, gave Kevin some useful advice. The book has been a success since it was published earlier this month with more than 500 copies sold and £250 already donated to the charity Derian House childrens hospice from the proceeds of the novel.

Mr OHara said: "I originally started to write a book about the history of Sunday League football and all the funny experiences I have had since being involved in the game. But after a while I realised that there was a novel in there, which was when the Bolton Wanderers influence came in.

"The Costa Del Sol was a fantastic experience, but we did miss our family and friends and watching the Wanderers. My homesickness for Wanderers helped me to finish off the novel. When I bumped into Dave Spikey, I plucked up the courage to ask him for some advice about writing. He said he really enjoyed it."

He said: "I've tried to make it a real gritty northern read which will appeal to both men and women.

"I've covered the more serious subjects as realistically as I could."

The book is available from Bolton Wanderers superstore and WH Smith and costs £6.99, with 50p from each sale being donated to Derian House.
