YOUNGSTERS had a taste of the spotlight when they got the chance to perform with up-and-coming pop group Glitzzi Girlz.

The trio, who met at an audition in London in January, put on a show for pupils at St Mary's Primary School, Deane, as part of a three-week national tour.

Blonde Belle, and Chatty KC, both aged 18, and the baby of the group, Mai, aged 16, performed their version of the 1960's classic Be My Baby, originally recorded by the Ronnettes.

With their snappy dance routines and clean-cut image, the Glitzzi Girlz, who originate from Essex, Berkshire and Bristol, hope to follow in the footsteps of successful pop acts Atomic Kitten and S Club.

KC - whose real name is Louise Emmanuel - said: "We are just three friends who love to sing and dance and want to be pop stars."

Their performance at the Edale Road school yesterday received rapturous applause and the children were desperate to be chosen to be taught the routine and take part in the show.

Year Six pupil Amy Greenhalgh, aged 10, said: "It was really good and I would love to be able to do that myself. I will definitely buy the album when it comes out."

Lewis Jackson, aged 10, said: "It was amazing. I loved the dancing and the song, even though I hadn't heard it before."

And it wasn't just the children who were impressed.

Headteacher Chris Kilsby said: "It was great. It was obvious the children had a great time from their eagerness to be involved."

Belle - aka Sarah Newak - said: "We have been visiting school across the country and the children in Bolton have been some of the best."

The visit was organised by Bolton Music Service and the girls also performed at Ladybridge Primary School, Deane, and Haslam Park Primary School, also in Deane.
