NICKY Hunt was caught in the crossfire as England U21 captain Glenn Johnson was controversially sent off in last night's friendly in Spain.

Johnson, who has already been booked, wasordered off in the 70th minute for sarcastically applauding German referee Franz Xaver Wak when he awarded England a free kick for a foul on the young Wanderer.

Hunt, who again played at centre-half for the third time under coach Peter Taylor, was also booked in the incident for dissent.

It was a miserable night for the U21s, who lost 1-0 - their first defeat since Hull City manager Taylor returned as coach.
