BORO boss Steve McClaren, already upset at losing out on Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan, who chose Manchester United over the Riverside, was not a happy man.
McClaren said: "The disappointment is that we could have had the game won by half-time.
"We started the second half in control too but we needed to get that second goal, and that is not something we have been able to achieve in many matches this season.
"After Bolton had a change of system, nervousness seemed to spread throughout our whole team and the whole stadium, and then we endured a 20-minute spell in which we could have lost the game."
He added: "The only pleasing thing for me was the amount of chances we created. I thought we were head and shoulders above Bolton but if you do not score goals you are liable to concede and the siege mentality spreads throughout the whole team."
