MEMORIES of a glittering past were revived when it was revealed Youri Djorkaeff will wear the number six shirt for Wanderers next season.
Despite insisting he had no qualms about wearing number 13 when he arrived at the Reebok from Kaiserslautern 17 months ago, the French maestro was associated with the number six shirt at the height of his career in France, Italy and on the international stage where he hit the heights with World Cup and European Championship successes.
So famously, in fact, that when he left Inter Milan for Germany in 1999, the Serie A giants announced plans to 'retire' the number six shirt in appreciation of the sensational impact he made during his time with the Nerazzurri.
New boy Stelios Giannakopoulos, the midfielder signed from Olympiakos, has been assigned the number seven shirt with Jay-Jay Okocha keeping his preferred number 10 while Ivan Campo and Florent Laville keep the number 16 and 17, which they wore on loan last season.
Kevin Poole, who turned 40 this month, will wear the number one jersey with Jussi Jaaskelainen retaining his lucky 22 shirt.
