WANDERERS

4-3-2-1

JUSSI JAASKELAINEN ... 7

Excellent saves but hesitant once or twice; a mix-up with Bergsson first half

ANTHONY BARNESS ... 7

A neat and tidy contribution to a brave rearguard action.

GUDNI BERGSSON ... 7

Had a testing start, conceding the penalty but warmed to the task.

MIKE WHITLOW... 8

Marked his 150th appearance with a typically heroic display.

SIMON CHARLTON ... 7

One kick away from saving the day but otherwise impressive in good company

PER FRANDSEN ... 8

Switched from the anchor role but still a proment all-rounder; close with a volley

IVAN CAMPO ... 7

Headstrong, foolish, perhaps unlucky ... he carried the can but looked quality

GARETH FARRELLY ... 8

Almost the forgotten man, he came from nowhere to give an impressive performance

YOURI DJORKAEFF ... 6

Nowhere near his influential best; lost possession, missed a great chance at 1-1

DEAN HOLDSWORTH ... 8

Promised to work hard to keep his place and was true to his word

HENRIK PEDERSEN ... 5

Struggled to make his presence felt and was replaced at half-time.

Subs: Michael Ricketts (6) for Pedersen half-time, Jay Jay Okocha (5) for Holdsworth 65 mins, Stig Tofting for Djorkaeff 81 mins. Not used: Danny Livesey, Kevin Poole.

Man of the Match

MIKE WHITLOW

ON his 150th senior appearance for Wanderers he was typically determined and characteristically committed against the Premiership's finest. He may be under threat from Campo but the Spaniard could learn a lot from the old war horse.

Magic Moment

WITH all due respect to the England, or will it now be the 'former' England keeper, seeing Farrelly's cross sail over his head and drop just inside the post was both hilarious and exhilarating; Wanderers could have played all day and not scored, suddenly they were in with a shout.

Moan of the Match

SAM Allardyce summed up the feelings of the fans; Campo is quality but his temperament probably cost Wanderers the game. The Spaniard might have been unlucky but he must learn quickly that hot-heads do not last long in the Premiership.
