BEING a life-long Bury fan, I hate Bolton Wanderers. I do.
However, to single out an individual and ban them for life, for other people's mistakes, (notably in this case the referee and BWFC for having such a poor team) is a disgrace.
When BWFC were in the doldrums of the then Fourth Division in the mid 80s, Simon used to attend all the matches, alongside the other 5,000. I wonder how many of those 'loyal' fans have become as disaffectioned with how a football club can 'reward' its so-called supporters.
In a fit of emotion, rarely seen from a very placid guy, Mr Edwards made a mistake (to which I'm sure he'll readily admit). But do we all not make mistakes.
A life ban is too harsh a punishment. Sure, if it happens again, then maybe it should be a consideration. However, was anybody hurt by his actions. No. Will anyone remember his actions in two week's time. Again no. So give a genuine and well-loved supporter a break, and only ban him until next season when he'll no doubt pay his £300 to watch the 'mighty' Wanderers play in the First Division.
Common sense should prevail, it's nearly Christmas after all.
