RIVINGTON 2 BAE CANBERRA 1
Five in a row for happy Rivington
RIVINGTON extended their unbeaten run to five matches, since new manager Tony Swarbrick and his assistant Billy Gaskell took charge of the West Lancs League side.
Rivs moved out of the bottom two after an excellent 2-1 win over BAE Canberra, who currently lie third in the table.
Rivs took the lead with the first attack of the match when Danny Holmes crossed in a quality ball from the right flank, for Rivs' leading striker Shaun Lilley to score on the volley.
Canberra came back at them, but the home side defended well and should have increased their lead after 30 minutes when a Shaun Lilley effort was well saved by the Canberra keeper.
Canberra came out in the second half to dominate for long periods but it was Rivs, who increased their lead against the run of play in the 70th minute.
Striker Austin Brobbey beat several Canberra defenders in the penalty area before crossing to the far post for Rivs midfield player Adam Baki to score from close range.
Rivs maintained to defend well, and young Adam Skelly was outstanding at the heart of their defence.
Canberra went on to hit the woodwork and finally pulled one back in the 94th minute when a Chippendale lob beat the Rivs keeper.
Rivs travel to Haslingden St Mary's next Saturday, kick-off 2pm.
