ATHERTON Town 1st XI beat Leigh Phoenix 2-0 in the fourth round of the Lancs Amateur Shield, with goals coming from 16 -years-old Lee Parten and Mike Garfin, to reach the last eight.
The 2nd XI continued their impressive start to the season by beating Avro A 3-1.
Town started well and created several chances but failed to hit the target. In contrast, Avro scored with their first shot at goal .
That sparked Town into life and they equalised when Raptry cut into the box and shot into the far corner.
In the second half, Town were in control but it was not until the last 10 minutes they made it count when Martland and Cooke scored from close range.
The U18s continued their good form, beating Bolton County 5-2 with a hat trick from Hemingway plus further goals from Southern and Nelson.
