ANDY Oakes wants to repay Sam Allardyce for the chance he has given him to revive his league career.

The on-loan Derby keeper made his first Premiership appearance in two and a half years when he stood in for the suspended Jussi Jaaskelainen in Saturday's 2-1 defeat by Aston Villa.

And, despite taking a share in the collective blame for the first Villa goal, he is determined to step up the pressure on the Finland international.

"It's up to me now," Oakes said. "The gaffer has given me the chance to stay on to the end of the season and I've got until then to show him it's worth him keeping me here.

"Jussi can't take it for granted that he's going to start every game. I'm sure he knows that .

"It's up to Kevin Poole and myself every single day, in every training session, to give the manager a headache in deciding who's going to play."
