BOLTON'S three MPs have welcomed new legislation meaning that all large stores must close on Christmas Day.
David Crausby, Brian Iddon and Ruth Kelly all said they were pleased the Christmas Day (Trading) Bill has passed its final stage in Parliament.
The bill, backed by the union, Usdaw, means that all shopworkers will get at least one day off at Christmas.
David Crausby, MP for Bolton North-east, said: "Even Scrooge gave his staff Christmas Day off.
"Staff in large retail stores work exceptionally long hours in the run-up to Christmas.
"It also ensures that Christmas Day remains special for us all and does not become just another shopping day."
