WALMSLEY AODS is set to raise the roof with its new production, the Broadway hit musical Hot Mikado.

This is an outrageously entertaining jazz, rock and swing version of the most famous Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, which runs from November 8 to 13 at Walmsley Parish Hall.

The show is a celebration of the original Victorian satire on the craze for all things Japanese, portrayed in the Mike Leigh film Topsy Turvy, which showed Gilbert and Sullivan coming up with the idea for The Mikado back in 1885. A hundred years later another musical duo, David H Bell and Rob Bowman, decided to give the show an injection of jazz and launched this version on Broadway to instant success.

The musical retains the comedy, absurdity and charm of the original while adding more than a splash of glamour and glitz.
