JUDGING by the extensive amount of litter left in Bradshawgate and the town centre after Saturday night, it is quite obvious that the council's policy of cracking down and fining litter louts is failing badly.

I thought we now had wardens patrolling to fine anyone who drops litter, so where are they on a Saturday night? Tucked up in bed?

Given the tons of litter discarded by arrogant youths on a Saturday night after visiting the numerous takeaway outlets in town, it is quite obvious that they are giving two fingers to the council and their policy -- and, of course, our ineffective police force.

I judge that if everyone that dropped litter in the town centre on a Saturday night was fined £50, the income generated would be around a staggering £500,000, which could be directed to making real improvements to the services in our town.
